College Park Squadron
Our Mission
To provide a force of trained, professional search & rescue volunteers, able to be of service to our nation, state, and community in times of emergency.
History
College Park Composite Squadron, U.S. Civil Air Patrol (CAP), is a unit with an established history of service to Maryland and the nation. A CAP unit has been located at College Park Airport since almost the creation of CAP in 1941. College Park Airport is a worthy home to the Squadron; the oldest continuously operating airport in the US and a history of groundbreaking aviation events that earned it the nickname “Field of Firsts.” Serving in peace and war, the squadron has striven to live the squadron's motto “Pelle Finem” Push the Limit!
Our Capabilities
We currently have an aircraft equipped for electronic or visual search, photo-reconnaissance, or transport of emergency personnel and small, high value items such as human organs or medical supplies. The unit also has an active ground electronic search team, personnel capable of providing support for a mission base.
The Future
The plans for the upcoming year include the addition to our aircraft of equipment allowing live transmission of aerial pictures to a ground base, allowing even faster use of our aerial photography. College Park is also an active participant in CAP's growing Homeland Defense mission.
The Cadet Program
We have an active Cadet contingent. These are highly dedicated young people between 6th grade and college students. In addition to their leadership and aerospace training program, the Cadets are also fully involved in our emergency services operations.
